Easy Valentine's Day Treat

Easy Valentine's Day Treat

Let me preface this by saying…I’m not a Pinterest mom. I will DIY some things. BUT it better be stupid easy! I’m also really bad at celebrations. We of course celebrate birthdays and holidays. However, I rarely decorate for the occasion. I’m not sure if it is the culmination of this past year with a pandemic and quarantines, but I’ve been wanting to celebrate simple things more. I want my kids to have fond memories of just being a family. In my attempt to celebrate the upcoming Valentine “holiday” (I use this term loosely), I wanted to make some sort of fun themed treat for the boys. It needed to be easy and half done for me. Recently, the new Gluten Free Oreos hit our local stores and it got me thinking. My plan was to make something fun with them. This way I could partake in the treat eating without having my body revolt against gluten. While also using these GF cookies for the boys so I wouldn’t eat the entire bag myself! A win-win really. So what easier way to spruce up some Oreos than dip half in chocolate and use some fun sprinkles??!!

If you are local to me in Bloomington, IL you can find all sorts of fun sprinkle mixes at our local cake bakers destination shop, The Decorators Grocery! This was my first time stopping in the shop and they seriously have ANYTHING and EVERYTHING you could need when it comes to baking! Heads up, it’s cash only. No cards! Thank goodness I had some cash on me!

I grabbed some cute heart sprinkles (I had to really stand there and debate as they had multiple cute valentines themed sprinkle mixes) and some white chocolate melting chips. If you aren’t local to me, you can grab some sprinkles here and melting chips here.

Now…time to get to work!

What you need:

  • Oreo cookies ( I used GF but you do you boo!)

  • Melting chips ( I used white but these would be awesome with milk or dark chocolate too!)

  • Fun sprinkles

  • Parchment paper

I tossed the melts in a glass bowl and put them in the microwave. I heated in 30 second intervals, giving it a good stir in between rounds. Then I half dipped the cookies and placed them on parchment paper. Top with sprinkles! I dipped and sprinkled each cookie as I went. The melting chips dry pretty quickly. I left them alone to set up. It didn’t take long! Super easy and super quick!

The boys came home from school and LOVED this fun surprise! I love how easy this would be to switch up based on the occasion.

Cheers to doing little things that put a BIG smile on your kids faces :)
